CompareIntervals.icu

An Intervals.icu alternative for cyclists who want the plan made for them

Intervals.icu is a free training platform with a lot of analysis: a fitness, fatigue and form chart, a power curve with several models, and estimated FTP. You build workouts and plans yourself on a drag-and-drop calendar. It runs in a web browser.

Torque is an iPhone app for amateur cyclists with about 6 hours a week. It builds the plan for you around the days and hours you have, and it changes the plan when your week changes.

An event, a winter base, a kind of rider you want to become, or just getting fitter. Torque builds the plan around it.

What Intervals.icu does well

  • The price. It is free for everyone. A Supporter subscription is $4 a month and adds extras such as the annual training plan builder.
  • Analysis. A fitness chart based on the classic Performance Management Chart, power curves across seasons, watts per kilogram, and several power models.
  • Integrations. Strava, Garmin, Wahoo, Zwift, Hammerhead, Coros, Polar, Suunto, Oura, WHOOP and many more.
  • Workouts. A workout builder, and export in ZWO, FIT, MRC and ERG formats. Planned workouts can go to Zwift and Garmin Connect.

When to choose Intervals.icu

  • You want to plan your own training and enjoy doing it.
  • You want deep analysis and the numbers behind it.
  • You want something free.
  • You use a device that Torque doesn't connect to directly, such as Coros, Polar or Suunto.

When to choose Torque

  • You want the plan built for you, around the days and hours you have.
  • You want the plan to adjust on its own when you miss, move or add a ride.
  • You want a few session types that cover almost everything, not a blank calendar.
  • You want a note in plain words after each ride, not only charts.
  • You want an iPhone app that also runs your smart trainer indoors.

Questions

Is Torque free like Intervals.icu?

No. Torque is $9.99 a month or $79.99 a year. It is free for 14 days, with no card to start, and every feature is included.

Does Torque show fitness, fatigue and FTP?

Yes. Torque shows your fitness, fatigue and FTP from every ride.

Do I need to understand the numbers to use Torque?

No. Each session tells you its time, its power in watts, its heart rate and how it should feel. After each ride, a short note explains what it did for your fitness.

Do I need a power meter for Torque?

No. Torque is best with one: your sessions come in watts and your FTP is estimated from your rides. It works without one too: every session is set in heart rate from your own rides.
