A Today's Plan alternative for cyclists
Today's Plan was a training platform for cyclists, owned by Specialized. It closed on 12 March 2024, and its website now says it is no longer in operation. If you used it to plan and analyse your riding, you need somewhere new.
This page compares three options for former Today's Plan riders: Torque, TrainingPeaks and TrainerRoad. Each suits a different kind of rider.

How Torque plans your week
Torque plans your week around work and family, gives you a few sessions that work, and gets you faster on the hours you have.
- 1

What are you training for?
An event, a winter base, a kind of rider you want to become, or just getting fitter. Torque builds the plan around it.
- 2

See the weeks ahead
Every session for the coming weeks, set to the days and hours you have. Each circle is a session and its load.
- 3

Ride the session
Each session has its time, its power in watts and its heart rate. Ride it outside, or indoors on your trainer.
What Today's Plan riders often need
Most riders who used Today's Plan wanted the same few things from a replacement:
- A plan. Sessions set for the coming weeks, toward an event or just to get fitter.
- Analysis. Power, heart rate and a view of fitness over time.
- Device sync. Rides that arrive from the bike computer without uploading files.
- A coach, for some. Today's Plan added coaching features in 2023.
When to choose TrainingPeaks
- You had a coach on Today's Plan and your coach is moving to TrainingPeaks.
- You want detailed analysis and like working with the numbers yourself.
- You want to use it on Android or in a web browser.
When to choose TrainerRoad
- You train mostly indoors in power and like structured workouts.
- You want to train from a laptop, tablet or Android phone.
When to choose Torque
- You don't have a coach and want the plan made for you.
- You have about 6 hours a week and the days change from week to week.
- You want club rides, commutes and short rides to count toward your fitness.
- You want sessions in watts and heart rate, and a plain note after each ride.
- You want everything in one price: $79.99 a year.
Questions
Is Today's Plan still available?
No. Today's Plan closed on 12 March 2024, and its website says it is no longer in operation.
Can I still get my Today's Plan data?
Today's Plan let riders download their activity files before it closed. Accounts could not be opened after 12 March 2024.
What does Torque cost?
$9.99 a month, or $79.99 a year, which is $6.67 a month. It is free for 14 days, with no card to start.
Do I need a power meter for Torque?
No. Torque is best with one: your sessions come in watts and your FTP is estimated from your rides. It works without one too: every session is set in heart rate from your own rides.
When can I get Torque?
Torque is in testing now. Leave your email and you'll hear the day it's on the App Store. It is free for 14 days, with no card to start.
